Our Review
Home Trust Secured Visa Card
The Home Trust Secured Visa Card gives holders the ability to build or rebuild credit, even if they’ve had credit difficulties in the past or have never had a credit card before. This card is aimed at those who would struggle to be eligible for other credit cards as a way to build credit, and has an annual fee of $59. The main difference between this card and the no-fee version is that this card offers a low interest rate of 14.50% on ongoing purchases. Virtually everyone is approved for this card, but it really doesn’t offer anything besides credit. As a secured card, you must pay a deposit of a minimum $500 and maximum $10,000, which will become your credit limit. All in all, this card could be useful as a stepping-stone to those who want a card with bigger benefits, but don’t have a high enough credit score, but if your credit is already good this card is a bit redundant. Also, if you already pay off your outstanding balances quickly without letting them accrue much interest you may prefer to no-fee version.
As per our rating system, this card scored 0/25 on rewards, 19/25 on interest rates and balance transfers, 6/25 on perks and insurance, and 22/25 on annual fees. Therefore, the total smart score of this card is 47/100.
